Pregnant women have a lot to complain about. After all, for 9 months a
tiny human is leeching everything off you. Big changes to your body
right? Well, there are some things to be said for pregnancy and things I
will certainly miss.
For starters, people are much kinder to
you when you're pregnant. People smile at you more - can you believe
that? Smiling! Others consider you weak and feeble, so they slow down
their cars to let you cross the parking lot or hold open doors for you.
Let us also not forget there's no such thing as "looking fat" when
you're pregnant. At some point in the pregnancy you get to the point
where you want that huge belly so people don't mistake you for just
being "fat". Letting your stomach all hang out? Oh man, will I miss
that! Now I have to adjust the underwear and waistbands for rolls and
making sure shirts aren't hugging all the wrong places. It makes getting dressed take 3x as long.
Most of
all, I will miss the break from my stomach condition and it's flare ups.
For some strange reason once I hit the 4th or 5th month of pregnancy,
my stomach condition goes dormant. Sure, I'm trading it for 50 new
pregnancy "flare ups", but not having to worry about where the bathrooms
are at all times for a few months is very welcome. Now that I'm 2 weeks
out from having a baby, my stomach is back in full force making up for
lost time. It doesn't help that it's aggravated by NSAID's, which is
exactly what I was prescribed for pain following my delivery (oh, AND antibiotics, which I'm taking for the abcess in my arm from nursing - AWESOME).
All I can
do is hope and pray I never have an attack when I'm out alone with both
kids. My fear after Autumn was born was having an attack and being able
to stop, find a bathroom and get her out quick enough and into a
bathroom (yes, it's that severe - it's why I don't go out much). Now I
have TWO kids I'd have to rush into a bathroom. Double the anxiety! It's
also why I "fast" whenever I have somewhere to go or a task that
requires me to leave the house for extended periods of time. I wish
there was something I could take, but the first line of treatment didn't work,
and the next option is a steroid which could do more harm than good
over time to my body - plus, when I stop taking them, it'd come right
back. So, I just learn to deal with it. Fun right? Eh, it makes car rides more interesting! =)
However, last
night as the 4 of us were sitting on the couch (Me, Autumn, Adam and
Brody) I thought to myself, "I feel like my family is complete."
Obviously it's premature to say I'm done having kids, but for right now,
my life is pretty darn great. And craptastic stomach condition or not, I
don't have too much I can complain about. =)
I downloaded the Charmin Sit or Squat app on my phone for all my needed bathroom breaks.
ReplyDeleteThough my issue isn't as severe as yours, I, too, welcome the break from stomach issues during pregnancy. And my clothes don't fit either!
