Autumn's Eyes - An Update!

Autumn had a check up not too long ago. I was a little worried about it, because since her last 6 week appointment she had been REALLY good about her glasses... and then totally regressed randomly and revolted against her patch. I knew it wasn't going to be a great visit.

When the doctor was concerned that her right eye (her weak eye) wasn't improving, he wanted to check it further which required drops. After I'd already told her no drops this appointment. Arg! So, while I held her down and she was screaming, Dr. P put the drops in. Below is the sad, pitiful view of her in the waiting room after the drops were put in both eyes. It's very frustrating and confusing for her to not be able to see.

But, as you can see, she perked up! I admitted to the doctor that I felt a lot of guilt regarding her progress. That I'd not been stingy enough about her patch and I knew that was getting in the way of her progress. Since this visit it's been going much better. The other day she wore her patch almost 2 hours! That's huge!

Unfortunately, Autumn will need another surgery. In addition to her right eye having poor vision, she has Brown's Syndrome. Before her first surgery, the issue was that her right eye could not look up high enough. Now, it looks up too high. She fit into the small percentage that would need a second surgery to correct the issue. Sadly now that she's older, she remembers the last surgery and is more aware of what is going on. She finds comfort in my being there, "staying with her" and of course, the toys in the pre-op room.

I wanted to give her 6 more weeks of hard patching and glasses wearing before I scheduled the surgery, but it will probably happen again in the next few months!

  1. She is a DOLL! I love that first picture of her--how perfect! Sorry to hear about her second surgery. I hope things go well!
