The Beach - Jockey Ridge

A first this year at the beach - we took a family trip to Jockey Ridge which is a National Park of sprawling sand dunes between the ocean and the sound. The dunes get rather tall in some areas and are prefect for sliding and running down. It is free to get in and about 30 minutes from the house, so we figured we would make the trip.

It was a bit of a hike to get over the many hills to the greatest hill for running, but it was worth it. The kids had a blast! Autumn initially would have been happy just to sit and play in the sand but she joined in with the rest of 'em!

Autumn LOVED the dunes and running with the big kids. We'd take her up 1/4 - 1/2 way up the hill and run down with her. Without fail she'd start heading right back up the hill by herself for another run. I wish her energy was infectious - instead, she just wore me out!

Hm. Whatcha doin?

I better check this out.
I took just a couple turns going down the hill. You'll also notice I took my time and ultimately lost all the "races". The first attempt killed my ankles, plus I did NOT want to be one of the people people were "OH!" and "OUCH"ing at. Maybe next year I can perfect my sand running skills.

A family that runs together, stays together...
